Question by bbkf101: What are those bungee cords on (backpacking) backpacks for?
I’ve just obtained a 50lt backpack for a trip around Europe. It’s got these irritating bungee cords across the best flap and some in the center of the pack as well. What are they for? Make sure you recommend some makes use of? Are they genuinely needed? I am tempted to take them out. Pardon my ignorance but please enlighten me.

If you will not need the… or use them… chuck them.

They are for expanding what you can carry… they have additional employs to secure tents and tarps and such.

Nevertheless… to carry anything you’ll not use… is silly.
